John Lowe - or Duff, as he likes to be called as it’s his real middle name - played with the Quarrymen during 1958 when Paul McCartney drafted him in after hearing him play Jerry Lee Lewis riffs on the school music room piano. Duff and Paul were in the same year at Liverpool Institute Grammar School for Boys and Duff and Len were in the same class. Duff played with John, Paul, George and Colin on the famous “In spite of all the Danger” & “That’ll be the day” recordings which are on the “Anthology”.

George Clinton is getting by with a little help from his friends on his new album -- a list that includes the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Carlos Santana, Sly Stone, RZA, System Of A Down bassist Shavo Odadjian, El DeBarge and gospel singer Kim Burrell. They all show up on an assortment of covers on "George Clinton and Some Gangsters of Love," which Clinton will release Sept. 16 on Shanachie. "It started out with me doing some doo wop songs," Clinton, who grew up singing on street corners in Plainfield, N.J., tells Billboard.com. "As we got going, people started coming through to be on it." Among the first, he says, was Santana, who plays on a version of the Impressions' "Gypsy Woman," and then Stone and DeBarge, who sing on Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar." "Then I got serious about other people joining in with me," Clinton says. "It still is a concept album, but it's taken a little bit of a different turn." On "Gangsters" Clinton also covers Shirley & Lee's "Let the Good Times Roll" with the Chili Peppers -- whose "Freaky Styley" he produced in 1985 -- Barry White's "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," Johnny Ace's "Pledging My Love," Shep & the Heartbreak's "A Thousand Miles Away," Bobby Rydell's "Kissin' Time" and Ruby & the Romantics' "Our Day Will Come." The album includes one new song, "Mathematics of Love" (which features Burrell) and a new take on the Parliaments' "Heart Trouble." Much of the album was produced with longtime Eminem cohort Mark Bass.

The Whispers are among the few that remain at the very forefront of the "soul survivors," in this decade. These four men have been singing together as The Whispers for over three decades and they also are among the precious few stand-up vocal groups still actively recording and performing in the 2000's. After scoring many R&B hits throughout the seventies, The Whispers finally had a major career breakthrough in the early 80s with their first gold single, "And The Beat Goes On," a #1 black and Top 20 pop smash. They maintained their hot streak with "Lady," "It's A Love Thang" (1981), "In The Raw" (1982), "Keep On Loving Me" (1983), and "Contagious". The Whispers returned to chart heights in 1987 with "Rocksteady," another R&B #1 and Top 10 pop single, giving future hit making producers L.A. and Babyface their first taste of chart success in the process.

THE MISFITS – Halloween Show with special guests
- UNTIL DESTINY + MARTYRD
File Under: Holiday, Metal, Rock
NB: SRO
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$26 adv, $30 at door
Throughout the span of their career, the Misfits audience has developed into an army of "fiends" (the term for die hard Misfits fans) generating more interest today than ever before. After a split with Danzig in the mid 1980's and a decade long legal battle, The Misfits were resurrected by founding member Jerry Only along with his younger brother and guitarist Doyle. 1997's "AMERICAN PSYCHO" reestablished them as one of the most aggressive outfits in music and spoke volumes about their influence on many of today's rock acts. From neo-punk bands Green Day, Rancid and Blink 182 to metal acts Metallica, Pantera and Slayer to hard rockers such as Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Guns n Roses (who covered the classic Misfits song "Attitude") and more recently Slipknot. The Misfits have inspired many musicians and much of the music people are watching on TV and hearing on the radio today. One thing is certain, The Misfits are here to stay and once again everyday is Halloween.

Saturday, November 1
BUCKETHEAD
File Under: Rock, Instrumental, Heavy Metal
NB: SRO
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$25 adv, $30 at door
BUCKETHEAD is the masked, inverted KFC bucket wearing, "mutant guitar virtuoso" that stunned audiences during Primus's set at OzzFest '99, toured the world with Praxis and Guns 'n Roses(post-Slash), and graced many a movie soundtrack/score. His last album, Enter The Chicken, was produced by Serj Tankian of System of a Down. His musical stylings range from raw-power riffing and hyper-speed metal licks to idyllic, yet edgy chordal passages and heartrending melodic lines. His music is very difficult to categorize because each release tends to have its own flavor and context. Heavy Metal and Funk styles figure formidably in the mix, but he's not limited to the cliches of either genre. He's equally at home chicken pickin' country or re-creating the sound of a roller coaster with his guitar.

THE BACON BROTHERS
File Under: Rock, Singer/Songwriter, Celebrity
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$26.50 adv, $30 at door
Kevin and Michael Bacon have been writing songs and playing music together since about the same time they may have been fighting over Lincoln Logs or little green Army guys. In fact, the cover of their first album, Forosoco, shows as much; the picture, taken in 1972, shows Kevin and Michael onstage playing congas and guitar, respectively. The look of communication between the two is telling: although the Bacon Brothers have only been a working band since 1995, they too, run decades deep. This has been their hallmark; writing songs that, through bare self-expression and humor, echo the lives of others. It’s an art they’ve refined over three albums and in the 50 to 60 shows they play each year. And with each album and tour, the Bacon Brothers move further away from perceived “don’t tap on the glass” sideshow to a “raise your lighter and sing along” rock band, garnering fan after fan and shattering the obstacle of perception.

Chuck Berry's music has transcended generations. He earns respect to this day because he is truly an entertainer. Berry gained success by watching the audience's reaction and playing accordingly, putting his listeners' amusement above all else. For this reason, tunes like "Johnny B. Goode," "Maybellene" and "Memphis" have become anthems to an integrated American youth and popular culture. Berry is a musical icon who established rock and roll as a musical form and brought the worlds of black and white together in song.

THE OUTLAWS featuring original members Henry Paul + Monte Yoho with
Chris Anderson, Billy Crain, Randy Threet and Jon Coleman
File Under: Rock, Classic Rock
Doors at 6:00pm, Show at 8:00pm
$35 adv, $40 at door
Following in the footsteps of such great bands as The Allman Brothers and The Eagles, The Outlaws developed their own high-powered, guitar-driven country-rock, complete with exciting self-penned music and stellar three-part harmony. At Ronnie Van Zant’s urging, Lynyrd Skynyrd manager Alan Walden became management partners with Charlie Brusco, and the two men brought label executives to the up-and-coming band’s doorstep. Clive Davis signed the band to his newly formed Arista label in the spring of 1975. The Outlaws’ debut album rode the momentum of AOR classic “Green Grass and High Tides” to #13 on Billboard’s Hot 100. With substantial success in the live concert arena and on the strength of repeated chart-topping records, The Outlaws established themselves as premiere players in the phenomenon that came to be known as Southern Rock. After decades of triumph, The Outlaws have endured repeated tragedy in the loss of original members Frank O’Keefe, Billy Jones, and most recently signature singer/songwriter/guitarist Hughie Thomasson. Today, the Outlaws are at the threshold of a new era. Along with original singer/songwriter/guitarist Henry Paul and original drummer/songwriter Monte Yoho, the Outlaws feature Chris Anderson, Billy Crain, Randy Threet, and Jon Coleman.

A Tribute to GUNS ‘N’ ROSES with APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION
File Under: Rock, Tribute
NB: SRO
Doors at 11:30pm, Show at Midnight
$12 adv, $15 at door
Unlike many other tribute bands, AFD focuses explicitly on the audio and visual aspects of Guns N' Roses, and strives for duplication in both areas. These days, it's not enough to just sound like the band you're impersonating; patrons can get that act from countless cover bands. They come to see a show, and that includes the appearance, enthusiasm, and on-stage antics expected from a national act. Appetite for Destruction delivers that and more. Their catalog of Guns N' Roses songs is greater than that of any other in the country. They are able to perform over thirty-seven songs, which allows them to let the crowd often choose the set as they go along. All of the hit singles, rock radio staples, and GNR fan favorites are there. Not to be missed is the addition of keyboards, played by William "Axl" Shores himself, in the same vein as Guns N' Roses performed live. (You won't find that sixth "who's-that-guy-on-keyboards" member on stage playing piano on songs like November Rain and Estranged.) With the future of Axl Rose's upcoming GNR album uncertain at best, and the sucess of Slash's Velvet Revolver, audiences are craving for a Guns N' Roses fix all the more, and AFD aims to please.

chael Patrick and his legendary band of "Suburban Hillbillies" have made a commitment to the revival of country, folk and roots music in their homeland of New Jersey. Obviously not a hotbed or breeding ground for the Next Nashville Star, Michael and his band (including members: Dan Markovitch - Lead Gtr/Vocals, Lou Montella - Bass, and Drummer - Mike Bisozio) have made incredible strides and carved out a comfortable niche along with a handful of other local performers in fulfilling a desire for something different, gritty, raw and real in New Jersey.

Black 47 espouses an unblinkingly political and thoroughly Irish form of rock 'n' roll, with songs covering topics from the Northern Ireland conflict to civil rights and urban unrest in contemporary New York. Black 47 earned their chops playing the pub scene in Manhattan and self-producing their first indie record, Black 47, before converting The Cars' Ric Ocasek to the cause and gaining mainstream attention with their second album, Fire Of Freedom. The band has produced nine albums to date.

Y&T are returning to the stage--with Dave Meniketti on searing lead guitar & vocals, powerhouse drummer Mike Vanderhule behind the skins, Phil Kennemore on bass, and John Nymann joining on guitar. Y&T has sold over 4 million albums and has recorded 16 LPs and three greatest hits collections since their 1974 inception. These rock and roll pioneers survived disco fever, rode the crest of the 80's hard rock insurgence, and remained faithful to melodic power ballads throughout the age of grunge.
