All That Glitters is Gold

We are what we see. And so it is with Venezuelan born and bred designer, Rafael Cennamo. Cennamo's world view is colored by his Italian heritage, his Venezuelan background and his years of training at the International University of Art & Design in Miami, the glitz capital of the world. Cennamo began designing as a teenager, dressing the models and beauty queens at his brother's Caracas modeling agency. And there is inspiration to be had in Caracas. Venezuelan is known for its beautiful women; Miss Venezuela has a close to guaranteed spot in the Miss Universe Semi-Finals.

In February of 2013, Cennamo presented his collection titled "21 Shades of Gold" as part of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at New York's Lincoln Center. The designer states that his Fall/Winter 2013 Collection was inspired by the Versailles Hall of Mirrors and his choice to present (the models stand on a raised stage while viewers wander about) rather than host a runway show was brilliant. Cennamo's collection is golden, glitzy and over-the-top sexy and best viewed as a whole with time to observe the intricacy of the designs. Even though the garments were created from a palette of gold, they are not static; they flow with the body. The designs are showy, theatrical pieces that give the lie to the adage that less is always more.

Celebrities who have worn Cennamo's designs include Beyonce, Toni Collette, Carrie Underwood, Eva Longoria, and Gwen Stefani. Cennamo's collections can be found at select Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue stores as well as at high-end retailers around the world, including Harrods, Hirshleifers, and Harvey Nichols Dubai.
