The New Wave Waved Again
The Bongos, one of the 80’s most promising punk bands, reunited for two shows at Joe’s Pub this October. The room was filled with the fans of the Hoboken, New Jersey rockers, eager to see the band rock it out again and also to see them do their bongo bit (they sit cross legged on the floor and bang the bongos, thus the name Bongos).
Here is a quote from the press release for the show: “Seminal new wave/alt-rock/powerpop legends The Bongos, fronted by Joes Pub favorite Richard Barone alongside Rob Norris on bass and Frank Giannini on drums, storm the Pub with their only live performance in over a decade. The show celebrates the upcoming Special Edition release of the original trio's Hoboken Pop classic “Drums Along the Hudson,” which they will perform for the first time as an unedited, continuous concert piece.”

It was a night filled with nostalgia for a band that once had great promise – one of the lost bands of the 80’s. And the crowd just loved them, eagerly cheering on their favorites from the album.
The Bongos CD, “Drums Along the Hudson,” is being re-released and they are collaborating with Moby on a new version of their song, “The Bulrushes.” For more information on the Bongos, log onto: http://richardbarone.com/ http://www.myspace.com/thebongos
